Production Sale Date: December 13th, 2008
First calf-heifers calve December/January and the cows calve mostly in March/April. The cows are re-bred and pastured on alfalfa/brome grass. Once the bull calves are weaned they are grown on cornsilage/haylage and pastures until sale time. The bulls are sold as coming two year-olds. Most weaned calves are kept as bulls until yearling weights are obtained, in order to maintain the contemporary group. After, yearling weights are taken then cull bulls are castrated and put on a finishing ration. The ration includes our own home raised corn and hay. These steers are fattened for 60-112 days depending on the amount of time needed to grade choice. These steers are then sold locally to anyone who would like to purchase whole or half carcasses of beef. See the section on other products sold. The heifer calves are weaned and 10-15 of the top calves are kept for replacements and youth heifer projects. The rest are fed and sold as choice carcasses.
